About Library

The History of B.Ed. college library dates back to 1954 with the inception of Teacher Training School which now is renamed as Govt. College of Education. The college library has educational as well as general collection pertaining to disciplines such as Social Science, Science, Art of Teaching, Technology, Literature, History and Geography.

It has a good collection of Reference books such as Encyclopedias, Biographies, Yearbooks, Gazetteers, Directories, Atlases, Journals, Proceedings, Lectures, Dictionaries and Dissertations. The library also has a collection of gift books received under various centre as well as state schemes such as Civic action scheme of the security wing of J&K.

The Library has also setup a Career Corner and has procured books related to Competitive exams for the students who wish to appear in various Competitive examinations.

To sum up the college has well stacked library supervised by the Librarian. Total Number of books under State Government grant till year 2024-25 is 31734 and 3111 Book Bank books purchased under UGC grant.

The college library is automated using KOHA 23.11.08 version. Approximately 20000 books have been catalogued with barcodes. MARC21 format is followed while cataloguing and classification is done using DDC 23rd edition.

The library has two sections B.Ed and M.Ed but since 2024 a new course ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Programme) has started so library services are provided to them also.

Students can borrow 2 books for 15 days, teaching faculty 10 books for 30 days and non teaching staff 5 books for 30 days.

Several magazines, newspapers and journals are available for students. Library also provides internet facility through computers installed in the M.Ed section.

Digital Achievements

Access to ONOS (One Nation One Subscription)
Since 2025 all library users are registered in ONOS to access international scholarly research journals.

MOU with DELNET since 2021
DELNET database is accessed remotely by all users through login credentials provided to the college.

Subscribed E-Books
15 e-books are subscribed which can be accessed anytime.

The library has its own web page hosted on the college website with facilities like Online Catalogue (WebOPAC), important links, dissertations, annual reports, statistics and photo gallery.

The future plans of the library are to extend services to visually impaired students.
