Four Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP)

The program aims at preparing teachers for Foundational and Preparatory stages as per the new school structure 5+3+3+4 of NEP2020. It will ensure that outstanding students enter the teaching profession. A student undergoing this course will be grounded in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, tribal tradition and also well versed in latest advances in education and pedagogy. This course caters to the need of 21st Century skills.

 

Govt. College of Education, Canal Road Jammu (A constituent College of Cluster University of Jammu) has been granted recognition for two programmes of ITEP i.e. B.A/B. Ed Foundational Stage and B.A/B. Ed Preparatory Stage by NCTE for the session 2023-24.

 

 

ABOUT THE COURSE

  • ITEP is a flagship programme of NCTE under NEP 2020.
  • The programme is being offered in pilot mode initially in reputed Central/State Govt. Universities/Institutions.
  • The course is available for all students who choose teaching as a profession after passing secondary school.
  • The four years Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) is a dual-major holistic Bachelor’s Degree Course with one Major in Education and the other in a disciplinary/interdisciplinary branch of knowledge offering B.A/ B.ED Course at Foundational and Preparatory Stage.

COURSE STRUCTURE

  • The 4-year integrated B. Ed is  dual-major holistic bachelor’s degree programme, with one major in Education and the other in a disciplinary/interdisciplinary branch of knowledge such a language, history, music, mathematics, economics etc.
  • The ITEP is of four years duration across eight semesters of study.
  • In addition, the programme seeks to develop an ethic of social engagement and capacities such as problem-solving, critical-thinking, creative-thinking, communication skills, ethical and moral values, reasoning  etc.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • The programme aims at preparing stage specific teachers for foundational and preparatory stages as per the new school structure NEP 2020.
  • The programme aims to ensure that passionate, outstanding, motivated and committed students enter the teaching profession.
  • The program aims to provide cutting-edge pedagogy to prospective teachers, helping them deliver quality education to their students.
  • The programme aims to equip teachers with foundational literacy and numeracy skills, enabling them to teach these skills effectively to their students.
  • The program emphasizes early childhood care and education, preparing teachers to teach young learners effectively.
  • The programme aims to create a pool of competent teachers capable of designing developmentally appropriate teaching learning assessment practices as per learning needs of the children at Foundational and Preparatory stage.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

  • As per the NEP 2020, teacher recruitment from the year 2030 onwards will be only through ITEP. 
  • The course will benefit students since they will save one year by finishing it in four years rather than the customary five years required for the present B.A. and B.Ed courses 
  • The course will contribute substantially to the revitalization of the whole teacher education sector. 
  • The programme seeks to develop among student-teachers ethics of social engagement, and capacities such as problem solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication skills, ethical and moral reasoning etc. that are necessary for preparing competent teachers.
  • The prospective teachers will pass out the course through a multi-disciplinary environment grounded in Indian values and traditions instilled with the needs of 21st century on global standards, and hence will be largely helpful in shaping the future of New India.
